Well, it all started summer 2012... I was getting bored at work and needed something new. I happen to hear about the Peace Corps from some friends that didn't want to do something like that and at a Horticulture trade show where there was a booth and lots of literature. After a brief thinking session, a few long prayers, and about a weeks worth of time I submitted my application!! I figured I had nothing to loose :)
Waiting three months for an interview almost killed me and I was getting pretty impatient. But the time came and I was able to sneak away from work and get to Oakland for the interview! It went well and I was again pumped thinking of serving in the Peace Corps!!
More months passed and I started thinking that maybe it was not going to work out.. I failed the interview and the Peace Corps did not want to work with me... bahahaha!!!! Not a chance!!! In February I randomly received an email congratulating me on being offered a position in the Peace Corps!! Rwanda Africa departing June 11. I could not believe my eyes!!! I went running out to a private area/greenhouse and started calling all my family and telling them "I'M GOING TO AFRICA!!!!!!". I was stoked!!
Little did I know that so much was required of me after accepting the invitation to serve. Many doctors appointments, lots of painful shots to keep me from getting Yellow Fever or Hepatitis, and crazy work hours at my actual job have now paid off and I will be flying away June 10!! Thats only 23 days!!! I CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!!
Of course packing is getting tricky since my bags are full and there's still so much more I could take... but we are working through that :) It should work out!!
